The Lascaux Caves in France (9/23)

Leave the caves to the bats!

It’s a great pity that the Lascaux Caves in France have been closed off to public as they contain fascinating ancient paintings of animals and amazing geometric shapes- so old, in fact, that they date back to 17,300 years.

However, when you hear that these caves and the paintings themselves have been affected by various strains of mysterious fungal infections, you would agree that it is probably for the best that they have been restricted since 1963.
