Viewed from above and on Google Earth the salt ponds in the Saharan town of Teguidda-n-Tessoumt, Niger look incredibly strange. You’d be forgiven for thinking that they are a massive section of honeycomb or a collection of weird blobs.

There is a scientific explanation for this as they are actually merely salt ponds holding colored brine which gives it their peculiar appearance.
