At the time of filming this movie (in the early 80s), New York City was a crime-ridden place where it was not uncommon to get mugged. Not surprising then that the filmmakers of  “Escape from New York’ gave us this image of Manhattan which was destined to become a nightmare of a place in the very near future.

How very wrong they were! Therefore, the blue-tinted skyline of Manhattan that you see in this movie is not a mesmerizing view from above but the clever work of an intricately put together mini movie set. Must have taken them ages!
