#20 Surtsey, Iceland
Want to step on virgin land?
Surtsey in Iceland is one of the most unique places on earth and has only seen the light of day since the 1960s. Similar to the scenario of the Galapagos Islands, Surtsey has been made off limits to the general public because of its pristine and unique landscape and environment.
Geologists assume that Surtsey came about due to a prolonged volcanic eruption in the 60s whereafter it emerged from the ocean. Since this time, only a few select scientists and environmentalists have ever had the opportunity to visit this amazing place.
